Making My Doll People Friends Happy!
From the very start, about 1999, I wanted to spread the word
about what adult fashion doll makeover artists and fashion designers were
doing! When I first found these talented
people, there was no outlet for them to show off. This was pre-Facebook, and all we had were
websites, webrings, and emails. But I
managed to get subscribers for Designer Dolls Magazine from 14 different
countries around the world. Because it
was for them! Sure, I took some pleasure
in it, but it was always about inspiring other potential doll artists, and,
most of all, making them smile!
Fast forward to present day, I found that most of the
makeover artists were aging now, the beautiful fashion dolls available today
certainly need no makeovers, and social media has produced instant
gratification junkies, taking from the thrill of waiting for their designs to
be in print. I mean, it became more and
more difficult to get people to send me articles and photos in July for the
Halloween issue.
So, I wrote books. Fashion
doll “fun” books. Again, to make my doll
people friends smile. There isn’t much
in the way of technical jargon when it comes to “Photographing Your Favorite
Dolls,” or fabric and material specifications for “The Fashion Doll Diorama.” It was simply fun for me to do, photograph, “talk”
about, and put into a publication format, mostly so that it wouldn’t get lost
in cyberspace. Because to me that’s a
sad thing.
All the while, I struggled with the slippage of my doll
stands. I knew from the start that there
was something wrong with the doll stands out there, and sooooo many others have
tried to improve upon them – myself included.
But when it came right down to it, I always began with the
slippage. So, I created The Mat.
It’s still all about making my doll people friends
happy! I think it always will be. I’ve been around fashion dolls long enough so
that I hope that people can trust that I wouldn’t try to sell something that
doesn’t work or doesn’t please me. The
Mat pleases me so very much that I actually do have it on all of my doll stands
at home. I wouldn’t be without it
now! My frustrations about doll stand
slippage are now gone. Blood pressure is
down. More smiling is going on, and I so
want to share that with doll friends all over the world. Just had to share that with you.
